Blissful Chiang Mai

Tues Mar 20
Upon arriving on Tuesday, Jessie and I checked into our hotel and walked around the city a bit. When we came back to the hotel a few hours later, we decided to treat ourselves to Thai massages.

These massages were done at our hotel and were fairly good. We were led into the massage area and Jessie and I each laid down on a thick mat on the floor. Our masseurs were pretty good however one of the employees had her 11 month old baby (who was very cute) but he was constantly climbing on us. This did little to enhance the relaxing massage experience.

A little while later, I noticed that my masseuse was texting on her phone while massaging me. Talk about multi tasking. The massage did get much better at the end though, when she bent me into a pretzel and was able to crack my back in many, many places. That felt amazing.

Jessie had a slightly different massage and hers was very relaxing. She thoroughly enjoyed it and is hoping to have another. All in all, considering that they only cost $5, they were quite good. We went to bed that evening very relaxed.

Wed Mar 21-

Wednesday morning, Jessie and I awoke and went in search of breakfast. After a very diverse meal, we set out on exploring the area. I had researched online and had come across a very good spa called the Green Bamboo. Jessie and I went in search of it and stopped in at various shops along the way.

At one point, we came across this extremely cute juice shop. We went in for a smoothie and ended up spending a few hours there. The drinks (and later food) were so fresh and delicious. We ended up meeting a woman, Tina, from Anchorage Alaska. She was very friendly and we enjoyed exchanging notes about our travels so far.

A short while later, Jessie and I found the Green Bamboo spa and we were mesmerized by the list of services. We decided to splurge on ourselves again and purchase a three-hour spa package. It included a full body scrub made with an organic thai scurb, a hour long coconut oil body massage and an hour long facial that was to die for. This spa was so much better than the one at our hotel. The staff were very professional, it was beautiful and it was so cheap… for 3 hours, it cost only $30!!! How could you ever say no?!

By the time we were done, Jessie and I were so relaxed we felt like we could melt.

We walked around a little bit more. I bought a very disappointing piece of cheesecake (something I have been craving FOREVER). Then we came back to the hotel for a quick siesta.

In the evening, Jessie and I went to our favorite restaurant for dinner. They had live music playing and we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a Thai noodle dish and a steak. We finished off our meal by sharing a fresh waffle with homemade coconut ice cream… yum!

Afterwards we walked to the night market where there were literally HUNDREDS of stalls selling everything you could think of. We enjoyed going around and looking at the various goods. We even purchased some gifts to bring home. After about an hour or so, Jessie and I got tired of being pressured to buy everything so we made our way back to the hotel. We slept very well that night.
